The beautifully sleek #444 |

Team Vesco delivers the fastest quarter and third mile speeds at the 2010 SCTA-BNI World Finals Event at the Bonneville Salt Flats. With an average speed of 296.098 in the first quarter of the third mile and a 309.52 mph average for the entire third mile, the #444 Vesco streamliner appeared well on its way toward a qualifying run on the B/FS record of 344.114 mph. The quarter and third mile speeds easily predict a fifth mile average qualifying speed near 360 mph with an exit speed around 363 mph.

On its way to a record setting speed, somewhere near the middle of the fourth mile, the engine failed causing the #444 car to veer and hit a course marker while traveling in the neighborhood of 330 mph.

Team Vesco wishes to give a huge Thanks to SCTA-BNI officials for running such an efficient and safe event. In times of trouble we can rest assured that the most professional fire and ambulance services are immediately there for our drivers and team. We also thank the voluteers who bundled up, braved the cold, and greeted us with a smile each day.

Although Team Vesco is disappointed in not settling another record with its little 406 c.i., naturally aspirated small block Chevy, we are very excited by the obvious potential of the Rick Vesco designed #444 streamliner. Damage to the body resulting from the encounter with the course marker was relatively minor and the #444 will be on display at the SEMA Show (world's largest car show) in Las Vegas November 2 - 5, after a brief stop at the body shop.

Lightning over Rockville Utah |
|
|
Team Vesco headed north to the flats from Southern Utah early in the morning amid a huge lightning and thunder storm which persisted all the way to Salt Lake City! Bonneville racers had been intently watching weather reports all week previous to the meet date. 30% - 60% chances of rain were forecast for the whole week! Team Vesco forged ahead, hoping for the best.
