TURBINATOR'S FASTEST QUARTER MILE SPEED AT SPEED WEEK - 330.141 MPH |
Team Vesco's goals for Speed Week 2017 were to break its own T-3 Class record of 427.832 and maybe even get Top Time of the meet. The rebuilt #111 TURBINATOR II was impressive at times but problems, often associated with any new car, prevented us from achieving those goals.
On the second day of racing with Eric Ritter at the wheel, TURBINATOR II posted its fastest speed to date at the traditional qualifying two & a quarter mile timing clock. The quarter speed is usually a good indicator of what the five mile and exit speeds will be. However, our exit speed for that run was only 396.054 mph. Excessive wheel spin after the quarter resulted in a disappointing car speed in the third mile. It is of interest to note that Don Vesco driving the original Turbinator posted the fastest quarter time ever of 365.090 mph at Speed Week 2001 on his way to a 470.288 mph exit speed.
Team Vesco will be back to Bonneville this year for the World of Speed and World Finals events in September and October. We are committed to Project First to 500 MPH and hope to demonstrate significant improvement at these events.
